What happens at a dental exam?
Your visit begins with a conversation about your dental concerns, health history, medications, and any sensitivity or discomfort. The examination helps us understand the condition of your teeth and gums before recommending care.

Will I have a cleaning at my first visit?
The right cleaning depends on your gum health. We determine that after an assessment, so booking a new-patient exam does not automatically mean a routine cleaning will be completed at the same appointment. Call before your visit if you would like to discuss scheduling and what to expect.
A routine cleaning removes plaque and hardened buildup as part of preventive care. If gum disease is present, a different treatment may be recommended. For example, scaling and root planing cleans below the gumline and is different from a routine preventive cleaning. The American Dental Association explains this distinction.
How often should I schedule a checkup?
Your recommended schedule depends on your oral health and treatment needs. We will discuss an interval that fits your situation. If you develop pain, swelling, a broken tooth, or another concern between visits, call us rather than waiting for your next routine appointment.
